Alpina officially became part of the BMW Group in 2026, rebranded as BMW Alpina.

Alpina, the storied BMW modifier, has undergone a significant transformation as of 2026, becoming fully integrated into the BMW Group and rebranded as BMW Alpina, a standalone brand. This shift marks the end of an era for the traditional Alpina-tuned BMWs that enthusiasts have cherished for over six decades.

The Alpina Legacy: A Blend of Subtlety and Power

Alpina has long been celebrated for its ability to enhance BMWs, offering a unique blend of performance, luxury, and discretion. From shoehorning a V8 into an E36 3-series to delivering fast, luxurious cars that fly under the radar, Alpina’s touch has been both subtle and bold. Unlike the increasingly ostentatious M cars, Alpina’s creations have been the ultimate daily drivers—powerful yet understated.

With the brand’s integration into BMW, the traditional Alpina-fettled BMWs are no more. This makes now an opportune time to consider owning a piece of automotive history. Here are four modern used Alpinas that embody the brand’s legacy.

Alpina B3 Touring (G21): The Ultimate Daily Driver

The Alpina B3 Touring (G21) is one of the last models from the outgoing era, starting at around £50,000. Based on the M340i 3-series, it features a modified version of BMW M’s twin-turbo straight-six engine, delivering up to 522bhp in the B3 GT variant. For those prioritizing fuel efficiency, the D3 offers a diesel six-cylinder engine.

The B3’s enhancements extend beyond the engine. It boasts an upgraded braking system and revised suspension to handle the increased power while maintaining a bespoke feel. The design retains Alpina’s signature touches: multi-spoke wheels, subtle decals, and a four-exhaust rear. Notably, the B3 avoids the controversial design of the M3’s grille, offering a more traditional and understated appearance.

Despite being introduced in 2020, the B3 has retained its value, with prices starting at £54,000—just £10,000 less than its original price. The B3 GT, priced at £93,000 new, remains a rare find.

Alpina B5 BiTurbo (F10): A Prescient Performer

The Alpina B5 BiTurbo (F10), introduced in 2010, arrived a year before the F10 M5, offering a glimpse into the potential of the new 5-series platform. Powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, it delivered 500bhp to the rear wheels via a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission. This setup allowed for a 0-62mph sprint in 4.7 seconds and an unlimited top speed of 191mph.

While it may not have matched the M5 in terms of raw sensation, the B5’s refined character and impressive performance made it a standout choice. Today, it’s the most affordable option on this list, with prices ranging from £25,000 to £35,000, comparable to a well-maintained 30 Jahre F10 M5 but more appealing to Alpina enthusiasts.

Alpina B4 Gran Coupe (G26): The Artisanal Autobahn Express

The Alpina B4 Gran Coupe (G26) fills a unique niche as the closest equivalent to an M4 Gran Coupe, featuring a modified version of BMW’s twin-turbo straight-six engine. With smaller turbos and revised management, it delivers a less aggressive but equally impressive 187mph top speed. This model embodies Alpina’s focus on refinement and subtlety, offering a swept-back design and a surprisingly refined driving experience.

As noted by Deputy Editor James Taylor in his 2023 test, the B4 prioritizes comfort and elegance over raw intensity, making it the ultimate artisanal Autobahn express. Prices for this rare model typically start at £65,000, reflecting its exclusivity and desirability.

Alpina B8 GT (G16): The Luxurious Grand Tourer

The Alpina B8 GT (G16) raises the 8-series platform, addressing the shortcomings of the M8 with subtle enhancements and a focus on luxury. Powered by a twin-turbo V8 paired with xDrive, it achieves a 0-62mph time of 3.4 seconds and a 201mph top speed. The B8’s revised suspension settings provide a softer, more refined ride compared to the M8, while its sumptuous interior and distinctive Alpina touches make it a standout grand tourer.

With its blend of performance, comfort, and exclusivity, the B8 remains a coveted choice for discerning enthusiasts.
