The 2025 BMW X5 launched in India at ₹1 crore, while the top xDrive40i M Sport Pro variant reaches ₹1.13 crore (ex-showroom). The update introduces the M Sport Pro package in place of the previous M Sport trim, though engine specifications remain the same.
Performance and powertrain
The SUV continues with its 3.0-liter inline-six petrol engine, delivering 381 PS and 520 Nm of torque between 1,850 and 5,000 rpm. An eight-speed transmission helps it accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.4 seconds. The diesel version, with 286 PS and 650 Nm, completes the sprint in 6.1 seconds.
A 48V mild-hybrid system boosts both engines, providing an additional 12 PS and 200 Nm of torque. Air suspension now comes standard, a feature once reserved for higher trims.
Design and features
Exterior updates include matrix adaptive LED headlights with blue accents, 21-inch alloy wheels, and revised styling for the M Sport Pro variant. Gloss-black details highlight the kidney grille, side air breathers, and tailpipe trims. Red brake calipers and an M Sport exhaust system add to the sporty look.
Inside, the cabin offers a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment display. Front seats include full electric adjustment and lumbar support, along with a four-zone climate control system and a Harman Kardon sound system. The M Sport Pro trim features Merino leather upholstery in Tartufo, Black, or Ivory White, while standard models use perforated Sensafin leather with Cognac stitching.
The xOffroad package, available as an option, adds a rocker switch for off-road modes like xSand, xRocks, xGravel, and xSnow. It also includes reinforced underbody protection and an M Sport differential, along with a 360-degree camera with an off-road view for rough terrain.
Six metallic paint options are available: Brooklyn Grey, Carbon Black, Mineral White, Skyscraper Grey, Tanzanite Blue, and Black Sapphire.
Market positioning
The X5 faces competition from the Mercedes-Benz GLE (₹74.9 lakh), Audi Q7 (₹79.99 lakh), and Porsche Cayenne (₹1.19 crore). The GLE and Q7 undercut its entry price, while the Cayenne sits at a higher segment due to its performance focus.
BMW’s move to standardize air suspension and expand luxury features suggests an effort to strengthen the X5’s value proposition. The SUV’s mix of on-road comfort and off-road ability remains its key strength, though the price increase since its 2019 debut—when it started at ₹76.5 lakh—limits its appeal to a smaller audience.
Deliveries will begin in the coming weeks, with the first units expected to reach customers by early September.
