The Volkswagen Taigun has been a top choice for SUV buyers who prioritize driving feel and engagement. However, with increasing competition in the segment, the new facelifted version of the Taigun arrives at an opportune time. To put the new Taigun to the test, we embarked on a 480 km road trip from Dholavira in the Rann of Kutch to Udaipur.
Volkswagen Taigun Facelift Styling and Boot Space
The new styling of the Taigun is a notable improvement, with a sharp and sleek design that recreates the new Volkswagen look in its smaller footprint. The squinted lighting and distinct LED signature with backlit logos and brighter LEDs are particularly striking. The boot space, although not the largest in the segment at 385 litres, easily accommodated all our luggage, including three strolleys, a couple of backpacks, and a cool box.
The rear lighting has taken on a deeper 3D effect, which works well with the new design. The split grille and big lower air dam also complement the updated look. It’s worth noting that the new changes fit seamlessly into the Taigun’s existing panels, creating a cohesive and polished appearance.
Volkswagen Taigun Facelift Interiors and Features
Upon entering the Taigun, you’ll notice that the interior design has not changed significantly, but Volkswagen has enhanced the sense of sophistication with new finishes, such as the brushed silver effect in the non-GT trims. The plastics are of good quality, and the capacitive touch panel for the climate controls is still present, although it can be tricky to use on the move.
A notable improvement is the new fully digital 10.25-inch instrument cluster, which feels more upmarket and is more logical to use. The central touchscreen, although slow to load, pairs quickly and reliably with your phone. The driving position is easy to adjust, and the seats are among the best in the segment, with ventilation and a powered function.

The door pockets are spacious, but the central tunnel could benefit from more storage space. An electronic park brake would also free up space for phones and other items. The wireless charging, unfortunately, did not work reliably during our test.
Volkswagen Taigun Facelift Driving Impressions
We had the opportunity to drive the Taigun. One aspect that stands out is how the Taigun’s drivability and performance can impact the daily lives of its owners. For instance, the comfortable seats and spacious interior make it an ideal vehicle for long road trips or daily commutes.
The Volkswagen Taigun is priced between Rs 11 lakh to Rs 19.30 lakh, with the base model starting at Rs 10.5 lakhs. While it may not have the widest cabin or the most advanced safety features, the Taigun’s engaging performance, comfortable seats, and sturdy feel make it a compelling choice in the segment.
Overall, the facelifted Volkswagen Taigun is a solid improvement over its predecessor, with enhanced features. Although it may not be perfect, the Taigun’s strengths make it a worthwhile consideration for buyers in the market for a compact SUV, offering a scooter like experience.
