BMW has relaunched Alpina as a standalone brand under its umbrella. The move comes after BMW acquired the Alpina trademark rights on January 1, 2026. The new brand, named BMW Alpina, will feature the words BMW ALPINA on the rear of its vehicles, marking a clear distinction from standard BMW models while maintaining a connection to the parent company.

The decision to make BMW Alpina a separate brand addresses concerns that the Alpina name might be discontinued. This strategy could also help the brand handle potential future regulations on internal combustion engines, as low-volume manufacturers may receive exemptions. By positioning Alpina as its own entity, BMW aims to safeguard the brand’s heritage while adapting to evolving automotive environments.

BMW Alpina cars are expected to retain the distinctive design elements, materials, and acoustics that set them apart from standard BMW models. The brand promises a balance of maximum performance and superior ride comfort, maintaining the driving characteristics that Alpina is known for. This commitment ensures that the essence of Alpina’s identity remains intact, even as it transitions into a new era under BMW’s ownership.

Alpina’s previous models, such as the 624bhp B8 GT, showcased exclusive bodywork, color schemes, and performance enhancements. As a limited-run model with just 99 units produced, the B8 GT exemplified Alpina’s ability to blend luxury and performance seamlessly. As BMW takes full ownership, the focus remains on preserving the brand’s heritage while introducing it to a new era, ensuring that future models continue to embody the Alpina spirit.
