Yangwang U9 hits 472 kmph top speed

The Yangwang U9 Track Edition has reached a top speed of 472.41 kmph at the ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg test track in Germany, making it the fastest EV in the world. This feat was achieved on August 8, 2025.

The Yangwang U9 Track Edition is built on the same e4 Platform and DiSus-X core technical architecture as the Yangwang U9, which is currently on sale in China.

Key Features

The Track Edition stands out with the world’s first mass-produced 1200V ultra-high-voltage vehicle platform, paired with a thermal-management system optimized for extreme conditions. It also features the world’s first quad-motor system, with 30,000 rpm high-performance motors that deliver a peak power of 555 kW per motor.

The combined system output exceeds 3,000 PS, translating to a power-to-weight ratio of 1,217PS per tonne. The e4 Platform features a quad-motor independent torque-vectoring system that continuously monitors road feedback and adjusts each wheel’s torque at an ultra-high frequency.

Performance and Control

The DiSus-X Intelligent Body Control System performs rapid, independent vertical adjustments to the suspension at each corner of the vehicle during aggressive acceleration and cornering, or on uneven surfaces. This enhances driver comfort and confidence while optimizing the contact patch between the tires and the road.

The electric supercar features body posture control and an aerodynamic design, as well as an enhanced optional carbon-fiber front splitter that helps the car retain stability at high speeds. They have collaborated with Giti Tire to develop a track-focused semi-slick tire with optimized compound materials and a bespoke tread design.

A innovative knurling treatment at the wheel-rim interface, combined with high-viscosity lubricant, minimizes relative slippage between the tire and the rim during hard acceleration or braking, reducing torque loss and tire wear.

German professional driver Marc Basseng, who set the previous global EV speed record in 2024, was behind the wheel for this record-breaking run. After completing the high-speed test, Marc Basseng said, “Last year, I thought I’d peaked. I never expected to break my own record so soon – but here we are, at the same track, with new technologies that have made it possible.”

This feat is likely to put Yangwang on the radar of other high-performance electric vehicle manufacturers, such as Bugatti, Rimac, and Koenigsegg, which are known for achieving similar records.

Implications and Future Prospects

As the electric vehicle market continues to evolve, records like this will become increasingly important for manufacturers looking to demonstrate their capabilities. The development of high-performance electric vehicles like the Yangwang U9 Track Edition will likely drive innovation in the industry, with potential applications in areas like electric supercar technology and advanced materials.

For now, the Yangwang U9 Track Edition remains the fastest EV in the world. Its performance and features make it an impressive addition to the world of high-performance electric vehicles.

It has a top speed.
